  1.          SPELL CHECKER INSTALLATION
  2.  
  3. Spell checkers are on separate disks which either come with your
  4. UniVerse package or will be sent to you when you return your
  5. registration form.
  6.  
  7. To install each spell checker, insert each spell checker disk
  8. into drive A: (or B:) and run SETUP from the Windows Program
  9. Manager's File menu as you did for UniVerse.
  10.  
  11. The UniVerse installation does not install the spell checkers.
  12.

  14.             HYPHENATION
  15.  
  16. Hyphenating a File:
  17.  
  18. When you are ready to hyphenate a file, select HYPHENATE from
  19. the TOOLS menu. If Confirm is ON (see below) UniVerse will stop
  20. on each word that might need to be hyphenated, and you have the
  21. option of Ignoring or Hyphenating the word or adding it to an
  22. exception list so that word will never be hyphenated.

  24. Configuring Hyphenation:
  25.  
  26. Select OPTIONS from the TOOLS menu and set the minimum number
  27. of characters you will accept in a hyphenated syllable. Then
  28. choose whether you want UniVerse to prompt you to confirm
  29. whether you want each word hyphenated. If you set Confirm
  30. to ON, you can add any word to the Exception list during
  31. the hyphenation process by choosing "Exception" while the
  32. word is highlighted. Words added to the Exception list will
  33. never be hyphenated.

  35. The name of the file containing the exception list is specified
  36. by running CONFIGURATION on the TOOLS menu and selecting SPELL
  37. CHECKING. Then enter the filename of the Hyphenation Dictionary
  38. (usually "language.HYP"). This UniVerse file stores your exception
  39. list in Unicode order, and should not be edited unless you wish to
  40. delete words from the exception list.

  43.           ARABIC WINDOWS USERS!
  44.  
  45. When using UniVerse in Arabic Windows, start UniVerse
  46. as an ENGLISH application.
  47.  
  48. Cutting and Pasting Text with Vowels:
  49.  
  50. The Arabic fonts in UniVerse will print vowels much
  51. better than other Arabic Windows fonts. You can cut
  52. and paste between UniVerse and your Arabic Windows
  53. or US/Europe Windows applications in both text and graphics
  54. formats. However, the fonts that are included with UniVerse
  55. will NOT support vowels in these other environments (outside of
  56. UniVerse) if you use cut and paste as text and not graphics.
  57. In order to support vowels in these environments when you cut and
  58. paste text from UniVerse, please use any other fonts with vowels
  59. that are compatible with the Arabic Windows code page.
  60. We will remedy this inconvenience in our next release.

  63.         HELPFUL HINT FOR EXPORTING TEXT
  64.  
  65. If you are exporting text to graphics include as many of the
  66. words, paragraphs or phrases that you need on a single page.
  67. Export to Paint and then from Paint make your selection and
  68. clip the white space around the item you wish to put into
  69. your final document.

  72.          NOTICE TO HP LaserJet 4 USERS!
  73.  
  74. There is a compatibility problem in the HP LaserJet 4 printer
  75. with non-Latin character sets. To print at 600 dpi on the
  76. LaserJet 4, select: "RASTER" and "PRINT TrueType AS GRAPHICS"
  77. from the Printer Setup Options Menu.

  79. OR for faster printing at 300 dpi, select:
  80.  
  81.         HP LaserJet III printer driver.
  82.  
  83. Selecting the HP LJ4 driver in text mode will cause UniVerse
  84. to display a very large cursor, and you will not be able to
  85. type anything.

  87.         TO CONVERT MLS4 FILES TO UNIVERSE
  88.  
  89. Copy the files *.TBL and MLS2UV.* from your UniVerse
  90. directory to your MLS4\DOCS directory: DOS command =
  91. COPY C:\UNIVERSE\*.TBL C:\MLS4\DOCS <enter>)
  92. COPY C:\UNIVERSE\MLS2UV.* C:\MLS4\DOCS <enter>

  94. In DOS, go to MLS4\DOCS (CD\MLS4\DOCS) and run MLS2UV.BAT
  95. as follows: MLS2UV filename <enter>
  96.  
  97. filename = the name of your document file to convert,
  98.        WITHOUT typing the extension ".MLS".
  99.  
  100. The resulting file will be a UNICODE file named filename.UNI.
  101.  
  102. Start Windows and UniVerse, and then choose OPEN from
  103. the FILE menu, select file type UNICODE, and open the
  104. file from your MLS4\DOCS directory.
  105.  
  106. This feature is only available for Latin and Arabic languages.
  107. Each file to convert must contain only one language.
